Blade: The blade of this sword is hand forged and finished with 12 stages of polishing and sharpening. The steel used is high quality carbon steel, which is very pure, and keeps its edge very well.

Clay Tempered: The blade has been clay tempered in order to harden the cutting edge while still allowing the spine to remain flexible. The tempering process imbues the blade with a distinctive Hamon (blade pattern).

Folded Steel: This blade had been folded fifteen times, creating 32768 layers. This traditional sword forging method involves repeatedly heating, hammering and folding the swords steel. The effect of this work evens out and homogenises the carbon content, making for a stronger, more flexible blade.

Cost: Express Shipping to the USA for $19.95 on all orders (includes Alaska and Hawaii); and Express shipping to Canada for $39.95. Note that for USA orders over $800 USD, Customs Charges may apply (more info).

Dara Katana

I'm very pleased with the Dara Katana. It has exceeded my expectations. The quality of finish is very good. The edge (ha) on it is sharpened to perfection, the folded steel pattern & hamon on the blade are exquisite. The Tsuba & habaki fit to the saya is pleasingly precise. I have to say the customer service from Blades Pro has been second to none also.

Reasonable sword for the price.

I was reasonably happy with the sword but I have to say I have purchased better for very similar cost. The workmanship is perfectly acceptable but unfortunately I find the fit of the sword into the Saya looser than it should be would fully inserted.

Katana purchase

Katana excellent for the price but would have liked the customs charges to have appeared on the invoice.

As for the customs charges - I hear you on that. Unfortunately it's a tricky one, as it's not something we're able to control -- some packages are picked up and some aren't, and the amount can vary based on the customs' office's discretion, so if we were to charge up-front, it might inflate the order cost unnecessarily, which wouldn't really seem right. beautiful sword

havent used it for cutting tatami mats or anything but paper tested it and its got a good edge. fittings are nice and tight and the blade is beautiful with the folding lines and the hamon. the habaki is well fitted to the blade and beautifuly marked.tsuba and tsuka are well finished. tsuka ito is reasonably tight. the saya and sagea are beautifuly finished.it is sent well oiled so it wond arrive rusted. and the sword fits into the saya incredibly nice and snug especialy for a sub £2000 (seen many with terribly lose fitting). thesword its a stunning piece of art that i will love for years to come.
