Tanjiro Kamado (Demon Slayer Series): Behind The Curtain
4 minute read
Background
Tanjiro Kamado grew up with his family in the mountains of Japan. After his father passes away, Tanjiro becomes the main earner for his family, selling charcoal to surrounding areas.
We meet Tanjiro as a kind-hearted teenager in the series. After returning from selling coal, he finds the majority of his family and relatives slaughtered, after an attack by a demon. His sister is still alive, but has been turned into a demon during the attack.
Tanjiro then makes it his mission to avenge his family's death, by becoming a demon slayer himself, and to do everything he can to turn his sister from a demon back into the human sister he loves.
To do this, Tanjiro is recruited by a demon slayer -- one of a secret membership of demon slayer cops -- Giyu Tomioka. Giyu is impressed with Tanjiro's fighting skills and also notices his sister's resistance to kill him - like most demons would - and sends both of them to demon slayer training.
Prime Demon Slaying Years
After years of dedicated training, education and physical improvements, Tanjiro becomes an excellent fighter, having mastered breathing techniques such as Water Breathing, and plays a large part in defeating the demons, including the original demon - Muzan Kibutsuji - who killed his family, finally avenging their death.
Whilst he is gravely injured in the process and ensuing battles, eventually Tanjiro is successful in both avenging his family and finding a way to turn his sister back into human form.
Later Life
Towards the end of the series, Tanjiro marries Kanao Tsuyuri, a comrade from demon slayer cops, and eventually goes on to have a family and descendants of his own.
